INSIDE CHURCH TOWER: Here lyeth/the body of Miss Mary/ARTHINGTON, the only/daughter of Ralph/ARTHINGTON late of/Milthorp, in the county/of Yorke, Gent./who was buried/December the - 0/1664/Aged 20 years./This stone is eroding and now stands against the wall in the tower. The edges are worn but a chain border can be seen between lines round the edge. Scroll and line decoration. T 2 Sacred/to/The Memory of/William BELL of Bretton West/Who died November 4th 1860/Aged 82years./He died in peace./'Be ye also ready; for in such an hour as/Ye think not the Son of Man cometh.'/Also of Jane BELL, relict/of the above so named William BELL/Who died October 11th 1865 Aged 84 years./Upright stone. INSIDE TOWER: Here Lyeth the/Body of Mrs Lydia BUBWITH/wid. who departed/this life November ye 8th/And was buried the 10th 1670/Aetatis sua 72./'-aro mea requiescat in Spe/Hic jacet Corpus Henrici/Bubwith Rectoris Medietatis/Ecclesia de Alt Hoyland in/Artibus Magistri, qui obit/Duodecimo die Mensis January/1687./Bebende Lector/Noli mihi mortuo Malectie--/----sum in Tenebris/---equio tibi/-[-es dondere]/. The tombstone is leaning against the wall in the tower. A line round the edge is finished at the top with short lines and a semi circle. the latter with a chain border. The first line of the inscription is in the semi circle. If the Latin is not clear perhaps it can be guessed by someone with some knowledge of it. It is badly eroded. ---BROO---/Sept 1799/---2---/The inscription is on a diamond shaped plaque of metal, possibly lead. It is at the base of the tower and the letters are barely discernable.
