James who died in 1782 was a yeoman and Churchwarden, also in register he was buried in 1784 not 1782. James Swift - died 1835 is of Doncaster in register.

He died July 28th 1824 aged 2 years and 9 months. / Bold infidelity turn pale and die / Beneath the stone an infants ashes lie / Say, is it lost or saved / If death's by sin it sinned because it's here / If heaven's by works, in heaven it can't appear / Reason all, how depraved / Revere the Sacred book, the knot's untied / Died, for Adam sinned, it lives, for Jesus died.

He died Jan 7th 1825 aged 3 years and 3 months. / John died January 21st 1831 aged 1 year and 2 months. / Also the above named John Taylor who died August 15th / 1851 aged 54 years. / Also Sarah, daughter of the above named John and Jane / Taylor who died July 7th 1855 aged 31 years / Also Jane wife of John Taylor who died July 7th 1876 / in her 86th year. / Also Ellen, third daughter of the above, who died March 27th 1882 / aged 43 years. / Watch and pray. / Also Ann Oxley, wife of Joseph Oxley and daughter of the above, who died June 19th 1887 aged 60 years.

4 In memory of Eliza Gunson, son of Amos and Sarah / Taylor, who died Jan 2nd 1844 aged 2 years. / Also Aaron their son who died June 2nd 1850 in the sixth / year of his age. / Also George William, their son, died Feb 16th 1853 / aged 11 months. Also the above named Sarah Taylor who died Feb 3rd / 1900 in the 84th year of her age and was / interred at Barnsley cemetery.

In this vault are deposited the remains of Anne, / wife of the Rev T Thexton, who died June 8th 1829 / in the 41st year of her age. Also of Jane Atkinson, her sister, who died Sept 27th / 1835 in the 40th year of her age. In memory of Jane, the second daughter of the Rev / Thomas Thexton, who died November 29th 1841. / Also of Ann, the fourth daughter of the said Rev Thomas / Thexton, who died October 16th 1842. Also of Catherine Atkinson, their / aunt, who died April 29th 1845. Also the Reverend Thomas Thexton, Vicar of this Parish, / who died December 25th 1854 / Also of Catherine, third daughter of the above, who died / May 17th 1863 aged 40
Flat stone The Reverend T Thexton collapsed in Church at the Christmas Day service and died in the vestry. His age was 63. He was Master of Darton Grammar School until his presentation in 1840, by Wentworth Blackett Beaumont

4Here lieth interred the bodies of four children of William / and Martha Thorp of Gawber Hall. / John buried June ye 20th 1738 / John buried ye 21st of March 1739 / Thomas buried ye 25th of March 1741 / Esther buried ye 11th of March 1741 / Also Caroline buried the 19th day of August 1752. / And Sarah buried the 12th day of July 1753 / who likewise died in their infancy. / Samuel Thorp Squire of Banks Hall in Cawthorne / died July 9th 1829 aged 80 years / Also Mary Thorpe, wife of the above Samuel Thorp died / 7th of May 1814 aged 69 years

4 Here lieth the body of William Thorp of Gawber Hall, Gent, / who departed this life May the twenty first in the year / of our Lord 1774 and in the 79th year of his age. / Martha Thorpe, relict of the above William Thorpe departed this life October 14th 1801 aged 83 years. / Here lieth interred the body of William Thorpe, Gent, son / of William Thorpe, Gawber Hall, Gent, departed this life / April 19th 1775 in the 41st year of his age. / He was a young man much respected by / his acquaintences, and particularly lamented by his relatives. / Also Mary, second daughter of Samuel and Martha Thorp / died February 22nd 1866 aged 83 / Also Harriet, fifth daughter of Samuel and Martha / Thorpe died April 4th 1867 aged 76. / Also Henry Thorp, youngest son of Samuel and Martha / Thorpe died September 8th 1867 aged 55
Flat stone. Was a large, wide, long tablestone and still looks impressive. In the register 1st William was a glassmaker and and a yeoman In 1734 William Thorp, glassmaker, married Martha Woodcock

4 Martha the wife of Samuel Thorp, Esquire, Of Gawber Hall / died 22nd September 1791 age - - - - years. / Samuel Thorpe son of Samuel Thorp Esquire of Gawber Hall / died 18th October 1793 aged 4 years. / William Thorp, son of Samuel Thorp Esquire of Gawber Hall / died 22nd June 1795 aged 7 years

1Sacred to the memory of - - - - - wife of Richard Thorp / of Darton, who departed this life Sep 21st 1805 aged - - years. / Also Phoebe, daughter of Thomas and Phoebe Bailey / of Goole, who departed this life September 22nd 1826 aged 2 years. / A lovely baby lies sleeping here / Short t'was on Earth to stay / For at the age of two years old / Alas was took away.

Emma, daughter of Samuel Thorpe Esquire of Banks / in Cawthorne died January 4th 1826 aged 19 years.
Flat stone, once table A William Thorp was Churchwarden in 1773. The Gawber Glasshouse was excavated in 1964 - by the Barnsley Archeological Society under the direction of Dennis Ashurst. The report printed in Post Medieval Archeology Volume 4 1970. Samuel Thorpe worked a a pit near the glasshouse.. The collieries were working 1775 - 1778. He installed the first steam engine one year after Watt's invention (Bretton's History of Gawber). He subscribed to the Barnsley Canal in 1793 and also to the formation of the Yeomanry at Barnsley. Samuel Thorpe of Barnby Colliery took over Banks Hall Colliery and built a railway from Banks Hall to Barnby to carry coal to the canal basin.

4 Here lies interred the body of John Travis of Bargh. / He departed this life the 14th day of January / Anno Domini 1741 aged 81 years. / Rebecca the wife of Richard Travis of Bargh was buried / here the 24th of January 1763 aged 74 years. / Here also lieth the body of the said Richard Travis / of Bargh. He died ye 1st of May 1764 aged 72 years. / Also John Travis died Jul-y the 30th 1771 aged 45 years / . Also Hannah Travis wife of the above John Travis / died February 17th 1822 aged 88 years.
Once table, now flat, with scroll and line decorations The name changes through Travas, Travers to Travis. At the time of the Travis's here mentioned, there were Travis's at Rockley Hall, the home of the Milnes. A John Travis built Halfway House about the opening of the 19th century. It was on the right of the road towards Gawber from Redbrook.

4 Here lieth the body of Timothy Turner of Windhill Gates, / Butcher, who departed this life the 13th day of November / Anno Domini: 1737 and in ye 62nd year of his Age. / Also the body of Sarah Turner, his wife, who departed / this life the 12th day of August Anno Domini 1738 / and in ye 65th year of her age. / Likewise the body of Mary Bawbell of Carlton in the / County of Nottingham, who departed this life the 22nd / day of June Anno Dom 1741 and in ye 58th / year of her age.

Small upright stone In the register - Thomas - a charcoal burner Sacred to the memory of John Turner, who departed / this life April 25th 1826 aged 45 years. / Also Kezia, wife of the above, who departed this life / April 19th 1863 aged 79 years. / Also Jane, daughter of the above, who departed / this life June 17th 1836 aged 24 years. / Also Walter, son of the above, who departed this life / November 7th 1846 aged 21 years and was interred / at St George's Church, Sheffield.

Also John, son of John and Elizabeth Turner / who died March 7th 1848 aged 2 years and 10 months. / Also William Brown, son of the above John and Elizabeth / Turner, who died Jan 6th 1852 aged 1 year and 5 months. / Also Elizabeth, wife of John Turner, junior, who died / April 19th 1868 aged 57 years. / Also John Turner of Carr Green, born September 20th 1800 / died March 9th 1883. I know that my redeemer liveth.

4 In memory of George Turner, farmer of Carr Green, / who departed from this life July 17th 1850 aged 41 years. / Also Ann, daughter of the above George and Mary Ann / Turner, whod died happy in the Lord September 9th 1860 / aged 17 years / Beneath this stone the father lies / his precious daughter with him rests, / their spirits reign above the skies / with Jesus Christ forever blest. / Also Mary Ann, wife of the above George Turner who died November 1st 1885 / aged 71 years.
This stone was lying flat at the time of recording and since disappeared. Fairly low in the ground amongts the Turner stones, it could have been buried during the tidying up of the Churchyard (GS Grandparents) A Turner was Churchwarden in 1672 .A John Turner was Churchwarden in 1788 & 1789 A John Turner was overseer to the poor in 1797 A John Turner was on highway maintenance 1819 1820 A John Turner was on highway maintenance 1838 A Mr William Turner was an enginewright at Redbrook (See Bretton's History of Gawber)

2 In memory of William Wagstaff of Kexbro who / died Auguat 30th 1807 aged 46 years. / Also of John Wagstaff, son of the above, died / June 29th 1812 aged 17 years. / Also of Benjamin Wagstaff died March 17th 1834 aged 49 years. / Also of Thomas Wagstaff died January 15th 1839 aged 36 years. / Also of Mary Wagstaff, wife of the above died June 21st 1858 / aged 71 years

She departed this life / the 26th day January Anno Dom 1727 / In the 72nd year of her age. / At ye North side of this stone was interred ye / body of George, son of Anthony Webster of Bargh. / He died ye 18th Day of December 1737 in ye / 54th year of his age. / On ye South side was interred ye body of Anthony / Webster of Bargh. He departed this life the / 20th day of July 1741 in the 91st year of his age.
Flat stone, once table In register - Anthony Webster - farmer A George Webster was Churchwarden in 1642. A Mary Webster, widoe, was overseer of the poor in 1785 with her son in law, Francis Shaw. Some Websters were Quakers as this entry in the register shows - Joseph, son of John Webster was born Dec 5th 1654, but when this Quaker's child was baptised is uknown. In 1735, Francis Webster, labourer, son of Quaker parents, was, at his own request, baptised Nov 28th in the 32nd year of his age.

3 Here lieth the body of John White of Mapplewell who / departed this life January 29th AD 1727 aged 49 years. / Here also lieth the body of Mary, the wife of the above / John White who departed this life April 5th AD 1756 / aged 84 years / Also here lieth the body of Benjamin White, / son of the above named John and Mary White, who departed / this life the 7th day of January 1783 aged 77 years, / also here lieth the body of Elizabeth White, wife of the / aforesaid Benjamin, who departed this life the 21st / January 1792 aged 83 years

Also of Martha Robinson, sister of the above who died / September 23rd 1843 aged 80 years. / Also of William Robinson, son of the above who died April 7th 1855 aged 53 years / This family came from Ludborough in Lincolnshire, / with Mr and Mrs Elmhirst of Swaithe / in the year of our Lord 1791.

Here lieth the body of Mary the wife of Robert Wilbur / of Bentley in the Parish of - - - - - - - - - , Gent, / whod departed this life 19th of - - - - - Ano Dom
The remainder is underneath a cupboard in the Tower Vestry. It is very eroded but a few letters suggest November or December but the year is eroded completely.

4 Here lieth interred the body of Thomas Woodcock of Gawber / Hall, who departed this life the 11th day of May Anno / Domini 1744 aged 66 years. / Ester Woodcock died July 17th 1776 in the 88th year of her age Upright stone In register - Ester died in 1775 aged 87 years

4 To the memory of Thomas Woodcock of Gober Hall / who departed this life February the 5th 1781 aged 32 years. / Joshua, son of Thomas and Elizabeth Woodcock died / 25th April 1794 aged 28 years. / Thomas Woodcock died 6th March 1795 aged 78 years.
Upright stone. In register - Thomas aged 32 a labourer. Thomas aged 78 Glass founder of Skyers Moor. Awoodcock was a Churchwarden in 1672 and in register for 1728 a Woodcock of Skiers Moor was a bricklayer. Skyers, Skiers and Skeres were old names for Gawber before the enclosures. The glasshouse passed through several families

Here was interred the body of Joanna, the daughter / of James Wright of Retford, Master of Art. / She died March 25th 1696
