• Brerely: A History of Brierley
  Richard Watson, author of 'Brereley : A History of Brierley', first published in 1975, and at present out of print, has placed the entire text of the work, including recent revisions, online. This comprehensive study is well worth a visit by those researching family background in that part of our district, which was at one time included in the ancient Parish of Felkirk.

  • Collieries in the West Riding in 1896 A list of coal mines being worked in the West Riding of Yorkshire in 1896. For each colliery, the list includes nearest town/village, name of owners, name of manager, name of under manager, an indication of the market served by the extracted coal, and the total number of workers employed there, underground and on the surface.

• John Hobson's Diary
  Leonie Fretwell has provided a transcription of the diary kept by John Hobson, Gentleman and Tanner of Dodworth, near Barnsley, 1726 - 1735. The transcriber has included an index to the names found within the work.

  Formed in 1758, later to become the Yorks & Lancs. Transcribed by Walt Norris from an officer's notebook found in the papers of the Wood Family of Monk Bretton. Probably, the book belonged to a Lieut. Bingley whose recruiting list of 1776/7 was found with it.
